This really is going to be the last Black Jack release brought to you by Frostii. This one wasn’t on our radar for a long time. This is what I call a real fansub. The original DVD was provided to us by one of you–a real fan. So, kudos to you!

And this sure is a different stuff. It’s different from Tezuka Makoto’s series. It’s different from Dezaki Hajime’s OVA or movie. It’s a rare gem. It’s too rare that there are not enough people know about this OVA.

Really, I can’t thank Carnivol enough for the contribution. And the rest of you too. Black Jack fans, you’re the best!

Black Jack 60-61 — Conclusion of the series

Three and a half years since the start of the project, we are finally at the end of the series. I personally was ready to give up on number of occasions. But the enthusiasm of the fans were stronger than my will to stop. After all these years, and almost forty people on working on the series (the 4 Miracles, the movie, and Black Jack 21 included), we could finally deliver the entire series. Thank you both to those who worked on the series, and those fans who has supported all these years.

The original story for episode 59 has a small taste of Christmas. With that, I thought it would be nice to be able to release this episode in time for the season. The Black Jack team has worked hard to make this dream come true.

If you only watch the anime version, you might wonder where the taste of Christmas is. It was edited out in the anime version. The original chapter was in the first volume published by Vertical. Go buy your copy today!

The story of Black Jack’s origin is a dramatic one. It’s powerful enough that we can come back to it again and again with different stories. Here, we make one last visit to it. (If you’ve been holding off watching Black Jack 21, then this won’t be the last time…) It’s also a story of another boy who has sworn to become a doctor in the future through this experience. It’s a story that is very fitting in this day and age, when the awareness toward the environmental issues is higher than ever.

Identity theft has been one of internet-related hot topics in recent years. And with the rise of concern came business opportunities for some, selling identity protection. Go on, do some Google search on this topic. So many business are selling their service. And to me, they all sounds fishy. Seriously, how can you trust these stranger to protect your identity? And can they really do a good job, completely protecting who you are?

Here’s a case in point. It’s really difficult to protect your identity after your death. Especially with Black Jack’s über face-lift skill. (Only the supernatural force can pwn him.) If you happen to suffer an unfortunate death under special circumstance, someone else can steal your face and take over your identity. He’ll take all your money and lifestyle! Oh noes!

P.S.

About a month ago, I asked if anyone could help us getting us last 2 volumes of DVD. Seeing nobody available to help us, I busted open my piggy bank and bought the DVD. The DVD is now traveling on my way. This series shouldn’t experience any more slow downs between now and the end, barring episode 56, the first episodes on those discs.

Who here’s been following the manga version being released by Vertical? I’m guessing that being able to watch the episodes that you’ve already read feels a bit different from watching some fresh episodes. Like this one, as covered in the volume 3 of the US release, with US title “Baby Blues.” As usual, the story is somewhat embellished from the original. It’s a good one none the less.

Me? No, I haven’t been following the manga. I have volume 3 stashed away in my closet, awaiting as a birthday present for my daughter later this month.

Black Jack – 52

We’re finally off to the final home stretch of this series.

And there is no better episode to start off this final set. We have the show’s director, Tezuka Makoto, make his appearance in the show, voiced by Tezuka Makoto himself. We also have Suwa Michihiko (exective producer), Yamatoya Gyo (scenario writer), and Saito Tomoyuki (producer) making their cameo appearances, although voiced by true voice actors. This episode also features Sakamoto Maaya as a voice actor for the heroine.

There’s one bad news – I think we’ll be slowing down a bit again after this episode. Hopefully nothing like another 3 months wait. I personally hope to have rest of the series out by the end of the year. 9 more episodes to go!

By the way, if anyone know of someone who live in Japan and can rent DVDs of last 2 volumes, it’ll greatly help us. For now, we have raws off of TV broadcast up to episode 60. We really need to get a hold of raw for episode 61. Let me know if anyone can help.
