A bit late, but here it is – the final episode of this nice little show. And what a fine final episode this is. It is very emotional; sad and happy; and it is a really good closure to the story told.

I know, some of you expected this series to be more of a disaster spectacle. Instead the creators went more with the personal drama of the protagonists caused by the quake. I’m glad they did, because when I’m able to empathize with the characters, the whole story is more believable to me. Yuuki, although sometimes a bit annoying, is a lighthearted but also caring kid. Mirai is a real teenager with all the conflicts and grumpy behaviour they usually have. But she’s also a loving sister who grows on her responsibilities. And Mari is a mother figure I wish all kids would have. Those are great and lovable characters. Which makes me want to watch the show right from the start again
Now, you all deserve to know who to thank for all the hard work:
Thanks to Amanist, who translated the show although he’s super busy in real life, and Komugi for jumping in when Amanist was travelling to Africa where someone “borrowed” his notebook ;P
I also want to thank Asunder (it’s always a pleasure to do fansubbing with you); Torgan for his editing; Borjoyze for his sign work and karaoke, which looks perfect as usual; Kobbie for the fitting ending karaoke – I really liked that one; thanks to Nanne – the fastest timer I know – and LGDarm for K-timing; DeathWolf for style and the logo; Xistance for some ts raws and thanks as well to the anonymous guy who gave me the other ones
And of course thanks to the quality checkers Ayanami, Penguin, Desolo and Scar – I know watching the same episode again and again is hard sometimes.

Who here’s been following the manga version being released by Vertical? I’m guessing that being able to watch the episodes that you’ve already read feels a bit different from watching some fresh episodes. Like this one, as covered in the volume 3 of the US release, with US title “Baby Blues.” As usual, the story is somewhat embellished from the original. It’s a good one none the less.
Me? No, I haven’t been following the manga. I have volume 3 stashed away in my closet, awaiting as a birthday present for my daughter later this month.

Two of the greatest personages in manga and anime cross paths in Lupin III vs Detective Conan, the latest of the highly rated Lupin III TV specials, which broke Japanese television ratings records when it aired in late March this year. The cunning and resourceful Arsène Lupin III, aided by his faithful gang of allies, sets his sights upon the one treasure which he has never been able to fully steal, while a royal conspiracy of the greatest magnitude is afoot in the background, reaching its tentacles into as far as Japan, beckoning the great detective Edogawa Conan to get involved. These two legendary figures soon collide in a characteristic myriad of action, mystery and yes, even comedy, which we are pleased to bring to you in association with the Detective Conan Translation Project. Enjoy the ride; we know we sure did.

When I owned a cat, it was the cuddliest, cutest, comfortablest thing of all. I didn’t have to take it out for walks, clean up after it, worry about it humping important guests, or any of that dog stuff. It was self-sufficient and cuddly, and even though it didn’t care about me, I still loved it.
Now, I’ve never owned a cat, but if I did, I would never want to hear it talk. I’m pretty sure it’d be nothing but “Feed me, servant. Pay attention to me, fool. You are only here for my amusement, idiot.” I already have a cat; I don’t need another non-cat.
Unfortunately for our poor protagonist, he can hear cats speak. What will he do? Who are the girls? Why did the monkey eat the xylophone? The answers to these questions (and more!) may or may not be answered in this episode (They aren’t. [Or are they?]).

So, after a seemingly endless delay, during which fans of the series had to endure agonies of suspense unmatched since the invention of fansubbing, only to experience the mind-numbing disappointment of yet another conglomeration of run-on sentences and fourth-wall shattering existential mumbling, here are the last two episodes of Gosenzosama Banbanzai (Long Life to the Ancestors). In the end, the show turns out to be a really, really long shaggy-dog story on the theme of “I’m My Own Grandpa,” to which is appended a suitably ironic post-modern twist.
