Tokyo Magnitude 8 – Final Episode
October 12th, 2009 by BlueLotus
A bit late, but here it is – the final episode of this nice little show. And what a fine final episode this is. It is very emotional; sad and happy; and it is a really good closure to the story told.

I know, some of you expected this series to be more of a disaster spectacle. Instead the creators went more with the personal drama of the protagonists caused by the quake. I’m glad they did, because when I’m able to empathize with the characters, the whole story is more believable to me. Yuuki, although sometimes a bit annoying, is a lighthearted but also caring kid. Mirai is a real teenager with all the conflicts and grumpy behaviour they usually have. But she’s also a loving sister who grows on her responsibilities. And Mari is a mother figure I wish all kids would have. Those are great and lovable characters. Which makes me want to watch the show right from the start again
Now, you all deserve to know who to thank for all the hard work:
Thanks to Amanist, who translated the show although he’s super busy in real life, and Komugi for jumping in when Amanist was travelling to Africa where someone “borrowed” his notebook ;P
I also want to thank Asunder (it’s always a pleasure to do fansubbing with you); Torgan for his editing; Borjoyze for his sign work and karaoke, which looks perfect as usual; Kobbie for the fitting ending karaoke – I really liked that one; thanks to Nanne – the fastest timer I know – and LGDarm for K-timing; DeathWolf for style and the logo; Xistance for some ts raws and thanks as well to the anonymous guy who gave me the other ones
And of course thanks to the quality checkers Ayanami, Penguin, Desolo and Scar – I know watching the same episode again and again is hard sometimes.

I QCed this?
Thanks also @ Bluelotus / aka Lotuspower for donating his time and his monster encoding skills
Holy cow, *just* as I have some time to catch up with my anime (just finished “Spice & Wolf II”… so good), you guys complete this series! Thank you so much. I continue to rely on you for an embarrassing percentage of the anime I watch each season…
PS: Whaaa that episode just downloaded in 2 and a half minutes? OK, I’m also gonna thank whoever’s distroing ’cause WOW.
Woohoo! Glad to see you guys finally finished this series up. Good job ANBU and Frostii, congratulations to both groups for another show completed. I think I’ll finally watch the 2nd half of this series tonight…
Thanks to all involved for subbing this great series. Best series of the last season, in my opinion (Bakemonogatari went downhill after 3rd arc while 2nd half of Spice & Wolf II wasn’t as good as the first).
Keep up the good work.
Cheers~
Thank you to all the people responsible for subbing this wonderful series! Including the ones from ANBU!
Nice! On the DL. Thanks guys & gals
Thanks for subbing this! It was an excellent anime!
Well… thank you so much to the two great teams who fansubbed this really great show. This last episode was quite late, but I’m sure it’s worth the wait (as usual).
I have to say I totally agree with your description of the show, BlueLotus. There has always been so many catastrophe shows out there (movies, etc…). This characters-centered story was really refreshing and moving. Really a great job!
Another great Frostii’s (and ANBU’s) show come to an end…
Thanks for subbing this great series.
BTW it’s “empathize” not “emphasize”
Thanks for the series guys/gals, not the best but it´s always respectable when groups finish serie
Keep up the good work.
THANKS FOR SUBBING
thanks for subbing this series. great series good to see something different now and then.
only down side is Yuuki didnt have to die. He caused it all himself and the end result is pain for the people he loved the most.
*shakes head* Don’t blame it all on Yuuki. His family’s bonds were disintegrating in front of eyes and he just wanted to try and pull them all back together. If he had never asked to go, his family would’ve continued down that path and his home life would’ve only gotten more uncomfortable to the point where even he didn’t want to deal with any of them. And, you’re not entirely correct in saying that he brought upon his own death either. Despite the fact that Yuuki is the one who wanted to go, Mirai was the one who asked him to buy her juice. (Though she can’t be faulted for that either.) One final thing I think I should mention, is that while Yuuki’s death brought a lot of pain to the people he loved, it also brought them together – something that the earthquake probably couldn’t have done as well on its own. If you watched the episode you’d notice that his remaining family spent as much time together as possible and had mended (or begun to mend) their previously collapsing relationships. His death was poetic and entirely necessary to the plot. If anything, he was the driving force behind the whole show. Everyone grew because of him. If he hadn’t have done the things he did, the characters would still be stagnating the way they were before and there wouldn’t have been a need for a show at all.
any chance of a torrent batch coming up?
Yup, they’re coming soon for both versions.
Great!
Thanks for the fansubing/uploading/misc stuff!

I just finished this yesterday.
Thanks so much for all the hard work, Frostii and to ANBU as well.
We fans are eternally grateful. ^_^
That ending was magnificent and realistic and truly made me shed gallons of tears.
Kudos to BONES and you all; in BONES for making this wonderful series and to all of you fansubbers who worked hard to present us this wonderful series in a way we could understand. ♥
thanks for doing this series. I knew something was up when she insisted on carrying his backpack, and the reveal was done well.
overall this was a very terrifying story to anyone who lives in earthquake country. having lived through two major ones, its representation of how shit can get crazy and you really don’t know what is up next, was spot-on.
thanks for your hard work.
Thanks a lot guys ^^
Thank you so much for subbing this jewel.

I live in Japan, but have no paid Television here.. So I have to relay on subs.
Good that I can rely on guys/girls like you!
I cried in this last Episode
