Spice and Wolf II – 1
July 30th, 2009 by DasBouef
Welcome back to Econ 101, uh, I mean Spice and Wolf – Season 2! We rejoin Horo and Lawrence on the road Kumerson to partake of an upcoming festival. Along the way, new people are met, fish are devoured, and wine is consumed in vast quantities. Hey, sounds like a good time to me! Step right up and grab episode one while supplies last!
720p MKV (version 2) (1 to v2 patch)
p.s. We will NOT be providing low-resolution version of this show.

W00T! Been waiting for either you or BSS to do it. Money money monnneyyy, MOOONNEYY.
ty for horo
may i ask why?
Nice, finally! ty <3
May I ask anone “WHY NOT?!”
Thanks for another awesome release Frostii
thx guys, ya the trade market stuff does remind me to much of Econ 101 where i just couldn’t help but sleep, but as long as they trow in Horo along the way it all makes ups for it.
Thanks for the release! And on irc bots too!:D
The economy is the best part of the show :/
Horo and Lawrence comes in second, I just hope they aren’t gonna moeblob Horo or dumb her down in any way. That is my biggest fear.
I think the 2nd season focus more on the love interest between Horo and Lawrence…which will be a blast to watch!
bring on the baby wolves!
So many good shows this season. Thanks for subbing this.
Thank you so much for not releasing low quality version!
Now all the r-tards can die. Do the same with all the other shows as well, please.
r-tards?
thank your mommy for buying ur pc
I swear, HD anime fans have got to be *the* most spiteful group of people on the planet. Let’s say Frostii did release SD as well as HD for this series. How would that negatively affect you (as an HD watcher) in any way, shape, or form? Answer: it wouldn’t, and it’s nothing but spiteful to celebrate a group of people being deprived of their preferred viewing option. I respect groups’ decisions to release whatever versions they choose to, but why do people have to rub it in like this?
they like bragging that their loving mom dotes them. they cant help it.
Some people actually go to work you fucking bums.
@thomas as every season
yay horo in 720 p :3
I didn’t like last season too much. Couple of good shows, but nothing great as far as I’m concerned. Well, maybe Cross Game, I guess. And the winter season was awful compared to this.
Yes I wonder why there will be no SD version as I know one of the rule states releasing an SD version of any type!
ArabianSwan, what rule? Frostii can do whatever they want since they’re the ones subbing.
Taka I’m talking about Frostii’s release rules :p
Rule #5 states:
# Size – If we release high def version, make sure we also provide some type of lower resolution version too.
I overrode the rule. I wanted to shift the policy to this style eventually anyway.
Cool so we can drop the SD of bakemono \o/
And once again, people who can’t watch 720p or can’t afford to buy a new computer get screwed over.
I always convert it myself to watch on the iPod touch anyway. Though my bandwidth isn’t fast enough to upload at decent speeds -.-.
Joining the chorus of thanks—great job as always! I must admit that I was sick unto death with fear that this season’s Horo would degenerate into a mere Nagi-sama, but to my great relief they have maintained the wolf-god’s integrity as a divine being pretending to be a girl and not vice-versa. It’s so much fun to see her toying with the humans around her (and the upgraded animation doesn’t hurt either, although no new song will be able to replace “Tabi no Tochuu”).
Just for the record, this show’s examination of the relationship between economics and organized religion is definitely worth a thesis or two.
Supplies are going to run out!?
@Margaan wha… Horo/Holo/whatever could never be a Nagi-sama. Horo’s the wise wolf, smart and snappy, sharp-witted and sharp-tongued with an subtle undertone of longing/sadness.
Kannagi was a confused moe god.
There is absolutely no comparison.
Like I said, I was worried about it but it was OK. Every time Horo starts tricking Lawrence into thinking that she’s vulnerable and needy, she does it so well that for just one moment I think she’s actually getting soft—Nagi soft. Then she turns around and knocks him down a peg or two with an ironically perverse rebuke, and I breathe a sigh of relief.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OIB3FE0N SD re-encode, just felt like making this, because of that HD fag
Thank you, as i can’t watch Hi-Def.
<3
Many thanks, keep them coming. In all honesty, I probably *could* watch this in HD since it’s got hardsubbed karaoke, and the filesize isn’t hueg either. It’s just that I liked BSS’ 140 MB 400p .mkv version of the first season, and was hoping for the same kind of release this time around.
Thanks for the release, though I must say the video quality isn’t up to your usual levels… there’s a slightly higher amount of noise than usual in the in the shadow areas.
Still better vid quality than the other subbers, though.
Thanks for the release, Frostii :>
I’m also a “HD fag” so the 720 is appreciated. (And no, my mummy didn’t buy my PC for me :p)
Thanks a lot!
It make me glad there is something i can count on…
I’m an SD fag. Primarily because I don’t have unlimited internet and I have to pick and choose what I can download. And frankly 175MB SD fansubs are more than good enough.
When I heard that there wasn’t an SD version I had a chill. Fortunately 233MB is acceptable to me. I was afraid it was going to 300+. I’ve seen some of those and frankly, the only reason I can see for getting them is because you can.
I wouldn’t mind a smaller subtitle but this is still the best fansub out there.. GOOD JOB
frostii
I LUV U!
Thanks so much was waiting patiently for releases since you had announced you’d picked it up. One thing though, please do try to pick up the pace on your releases in general as I’d hate for you all to be almost done but have to stop due to licenencing of the show(s)… please aim to complete all the series you’ve picked up as dropping a show is a tragedy to be avoided at all costs. I, in no way mean to imply that you should rush things nor is it due to me having patience issues… I just genuineky wish for you to complete the series you’ve picked up, that’s all.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a fairly well known group to pick up the series but looking at the novels’ translations (henceforth “tl”), a few notions and questions arise:
1) The God’s name. Translated Pitura in the subs, tl says Pitora (and it sounds like this one, too).
2) Why didn’t you bother with the foreign language? Is it made up? Is it not the same as in the novels?
3) There could’ve been a note about the measurement unit “patte”.
http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Spice_%26_Wolf
The foreign language is made up in both the novel and the anime. In Baka-Tsuki’s translations you’ll see they leave it as gibberish; we just left it out entirely.
Pitura/Pitora doesn’t make much difference in English. In Japanese, yes, but the English pronunciation is mostly the same in most dialects; it only matters if you want it to be in exact-transliteration-from-Romaji, which I’m guessing you do.
And personally speaking, if you can’t work out that a patte is a measurement unit when you watch the episode I don’t know what you’re thinking! The note in the Baka-Tsuki translation is put there by the translator, it’s not in the original. Just a personal opinion, of course, but with any fantasy setting I think the audience accepts that there will be analogues to English words that don’t seem to make sense but obviously do in the world the story is set in.
But hey, I’m not editing any more episodes than this one :p
TL Notes are bullshit and completely superfluous 99% of the time.
I’d go with closer to 75%, myself. Of course I prefer in-depth notes to be placed outside of the video, actually. Giving a good description of something in a brief note like that generally doesn’t work very well.
Of course, I find it unlikely that anyone that has a connection to the internet so as to be able to downlaod the videos does not have the means to look up unfamiliar terms using search engines or online reference sites. In that case I’ll agree.
Yay, thanks.
You guys are easily releasing the best in terms of quality, and I appreciate the excellent free service you are providing. Although I’m a little concerned as well this might be licensed before you guys get around to finishing it at this pace =/
Much love for subbing this.
How exactly do I use the patch? ><
See some of the comments for episode 2. That’s all people have beet talking about so far.
Guess I’m saving up to buy a new computer so that I can watch this.
Any specific reason you’re not releasing a SD version?
Not much reason other than not releasing SD version makes things that much easier for the team. It’s one less thing that QCers need to check. It’s one less thing that encoders need to encode. It’s one less thing that distro team needs to worry about. It’s one less point of failure for the project. It’s one less cause for the on-going question of “When is the SD version coming?” questions when it’s delayed by 36 hours.
tl;dr – we’re too lazy.
Nice job lookin’ out for the smaller, less important Frostii SD fans. No really.
