So the other day, one of our stylers, DW, said to me, “Holo!” I responded, “‘Sup?” Because, you see, I thought he was saying, “Hello!” but with a thick accent. It wasn’t until he said, “Holoholoholoholoholoholoholoholoholoholo!” that I realized what he was talking about: Frostii’s consistently naked goldfish, Horace Lokatuthainemaboorachiki, or Holo, for short. I first found it strange that DW would be mentioning Holo, for he had just been fed. He wasn’t due for his walk for another couple hours or so, so I thought that perhaps maybe DW just wanted to express his love for our esteemed goldfish. Thus, I responded in kind, and just c+p what he wrote to save time. Sure enough, our mantras of Holo were answered, as it was deemed that this episode of Spice and Wolf II was fit for release.
So, my children, shout the name of Awesome Goldfish Holo from the rooftops! Compose songs for Holo, and write epics of Holo! Let us enter the Golden Age of Holo! Holoholoholoholoholoholoholoholoholoholo!
Of course, I might have just dreamed all this. Not really sure.

nothing wrong with file size. lol. you cant believe with 100mb? are you expecting a 233 or even 375MB encode. thats pretty too much for a series like spicy wolf. if sudo was able to achieve a good encode of first season of this series with 233MB of hd encode (each episode). why cant frostii have lesser than that… i mean more lesser than the half of 233 (116MB) and be 100MB if video quality doesnt suffer.
the encode is pretty damn from a encoder perspective. idk whos encoder for this series but id say hes good. iwonder who is s/he.

Holo sounds retarded. It’s better if you stick to Horo in my opinion. Don’t make me mess with the subtitles like I had to do with BSS’s release.

its not that you cant have high quality subs at 100mb, its just rare.
most fansub eps using a xvid/mp3/avi combo are 175mb.
(havnt actually looked at this ep yet mind ya)
i suppose if you do 640×360, x264 and have low motion, you could get the video stream around 80mb, and assuming you set the bitrate low enough, you could get the audio to only be 20mb, but being the quality freak i am (and that i try to leave some pebals for me to make these for ipod), i usually end up encoding a 160kbps 48khz stereo aac, which comes out to be around 30some megs, which would put you over.
i could see a 480p ws (852×480 display res) taking about 130mb for x264/aac/mkv(or mp4), but not 100mb, unless there really is no action and its all slow and low light levels (the brighter something is the higher the bitrate)

personally i wouldnt force a resize like that, id encode it at 852×480, but ive seen some groups that have mkv’s at 704×480, and make it 852×480.

Spice and Wolf isn’t released in English. Why would it have her name in English? I don’t see “Holo” anywhere on this scan of the blu-ray cover.

Why should we even worry about the video size here? The video resolution used is 720×480, the exact resolution used by the DVD. So there was no resizing. (Maybe there was cropping, so maybe a very slight enlargement. I dunno for sure.) And besides, talking about number is really, really pointless. What counts is, download it, watch it, and see actually it looks like crap, or is totally fine.
I don’t have an answer. I don’t have critical enough of eyes to talk about video quality. And I’d be too biased anyway.

before you start talking about file size, and what the video quality of that 100MB would look like, you should first see the damn encode because whining and making reasons like you did would only prove youre stupid because youre not basing your opinions with the actual encode but other encodes.

Well I think that it is Horo and not holo, but then again it may just be that the other “teams” (I do not know what team sudeb the first season that i saw) may have made a wrong translation.
I can clearly hear them saying Horo, and not Holo…

But, on second thought, I realize that the Japanese pronounce “r” and “l” in very much the same way, so I think I hear “Horo”, but they could very well be saying “Holo”. It’s an accent thing, or something, right, Master desolo?

when I input horo and holo into SCIM/Anthy I do not get the same result; ホロ vs ホォ(or ほぉ or one of the other 32 spellings I got）, but then again I do not know any 日本語(Japanese)…

Schmole. Look at the title of what was linked. Notice it says, “Spice and Wolf”. Note the absence of the number “2″. Then, if you look at the url, it says, “cover_spice_and_wolv_s1_box_jp.jpg”. Note the “s1″, which stands for “Season 1″.
Now, if you look at the title of this post, it says, “Spice and Wolf II”. Note the “II”, which stands for “Season 2″.
In other words, you are looking for something that’s on the Season 2 cover on the Season 1 cover.
So, for the sake of dispelling any remaining illusions about Holo, would someone mind posting a pic (or a link to it) of the BD back cover for whatever season/special where it is clearly seen?

I agree with that, but google “spice and wolf holo” vs “spice and wolf horo”
horo: 114 000 + lots of hawt pictures…

but then again, it is the teams(Frostii’s) artistic right to sub it how they want. we, the laymans, can not just barge in and start ranting, it is Fristii’s decision, not ours.

This whole discussion is silly, I chose Holo, and we will keep it that way despite all the whining and screaming. If you have an official source you are allowed to complain, otherwise just keep your comment to yourself. If that really bothers you, you can change it yourself (Remember it’s softsub). Spice & Wolf is so much fun.
However, I just wanted to say that I don’t feel that this release is up to Frostii’s usual (high) standard. I certainly appreciate it, but I couldn’t help but notice that several things were ‘off’: the font, the video quality, and occasionally the translation. If you guys pick up the show when it airs, please know that at least one fan calls for the show to receive more attention.

Fakia-san, why so shy around 9:45? Holo says 「感受な時に側に居らぬとは、全く役に立たぬ雄じゃ」 which I understand approximately as «Really, he’s a useless male — not with me when I’m receptive!»
I don’t understand why do you mean by “shy”. I don’t see “shy” written here. And it’s not kanju “感受” she says kanjin “肝心”, so “How can he leave me alone at such a crucial time?” is right.
HunterXI, please refrain from making comments on the translation if you actually have no knowledge of Japanese. The video quality is as good as it could be, I don’t see any problem with the font (you sure you’re using the right player to read the file?), and as for the translation, please tell me what’s wrong. It’s really annoying to see people like you complaining when they know basically nothing. If you don’t speak Japanese, how can you even notice if there is something wrong? If I had made some mistakes (it’s possible of course), that wouldn’t be something that someone with no knowledge of Japanese would be able to spot.

A good translation is not a literal translation. Don’t start searching for words I omitted as there are countless of them. There are even sentences where I added words! I hope you are not going to defend literal translation and says our translation is wrong. Being literal and being faithful are two different things. If you disagree, well so be it, just read a few books about translation and maybe you will understand.
I have read a lot of books about translation and did odd jobs translating&interpreting for extra cash, so I kind of know the ropes a bit. And I don’t question your decisions or say your translation is wrong (I apologize if it looked that way, my writing certainly needs improvement), I just want to learn how did you think in this instance.
isnt it only ‘lo’ when it has the “accent marks” like ‘go’ (ゴ), ‘zo’ (ゾ), and some others?

i see alot of holo/horo complaint etc… i think its a valid argument but…
how about a poll? subs ARE for the viewers right? so if theres a poll up, whichever wins the poll, it can be called on frostii. seems fair enough to me. =x
just a personal thing, i prefer horo. holo sounds too much like hulu, and thats just weird to me.

I’ve got a question, that may sound bit n00by, and it may have been answered already in the thread, though I couldn’t see it (tried to find the answer before I posted this).
Question:
Is the ep.00 the OVA, or is it a special ep?
I don’t know what you call “the OVA.” It is this episode that was included with one of the novel volumes.
I’ve seen info that this episode will also be included in the first volume of Blu-Ray version, so we’ll probably release the high def version of the episode 0 next month.

My sister says that Holo is used in terms for her english name, Horo is japanese. So, it really doesn’t matter, perferably I like Holo better. Why do we have to fight? =) Keep the peace people.
