The simple answer: No.
I think every other comments we’ve been getting lately have been of this nature. I’ve been deleting every one of those comments. The rule of thumb is, unless it’s announced otherwise, nothing is dropped. Things can be slow, but that’s that, nothing more – just slow. So be patient with us. Every shows that’s been promised up to this point WILL be released.

Yes! Thank you for your hard work. I was beyond pleased when you picked up Hajime No Ippo New Challenger, and you have been very consistent with the release schedule. I doubt that’s not the show people are complaining about, but I appreciate your time and effort every week when I watch a new episode.
Is RideBack dropped, I haven’t seen a new episode in a while????

To prevent future comments like that, I suggest one (or all) of these…
- occasional posts dedicated to project updates (to give a general idea of things)
- simply a section of the site dedicated to “status updates”
I agree with suiton, you should have a status page or an occasional update post. Most of us are fine with waiting, but it’s good to know how things are moving along.

Fear #1: that creates extra overhead.
Fear #2: we start getting comments like “Why is that stuck in QC for 3 days?”
Fear #3: people don’t even pay attention to the dedicated section
Fear #4: updaters get lazy and the outdated info gets left on the site
Fear #5: extra pressure for those posts may put undue pressure on some team members

Why do you care a rat’s ass what people are thinking? fansubbed anime is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. I don’t see any fansubbers group under any pressure unless they put themselves under it. People should be grateful they’re provided with a means to watch anime that essentially bridges over their stupidity. They should be grateful instead of being whiny asses.
Yes thanks. I was wondering whether or not they were, however I know what it’s like to get stuff like this produced, so whenever it’s out, I’m thankful.

Although this is just a result of observation and personal experience, I believe that no matter how much one denies it he takes a certain degree of responsibility when he picks a project he wants to do. Public whining applies pressure to his conscience.
So stop whining, people. Saying “Oh, good to know that (insert your favorite show title here) isn’t dropped” will not help Frostii staff feel better.

That’s very understandable.
I’ve NEVER sent a whining post like the ones you describe, and I just cannot understand why people do it. I agree that it seems very annoying. Still, projects DO get dropped from time to time, so I guess it’s just normal asking the staff members politely when someone wants to decide which version to archive.
I remember *repeated* statements from Ureshii (that’s you!) that Ghost Hound wouldn’t get dropped, and in the end it did, silently. That was a real shame, since you had done a really great job with the first episodes. Since then I’m a bit more sceptical when it comes to your releases and a bit more reluctant to download them (and seed them, too).
I still appreciate your work, I know that you’re still one of the best groups, with attention to detail. But once a group has started to drop projects I just can’t trust them anymore. I’m a quality freak, I want to archive each one of my favorite shows from a sole source (with the same, consistent translation, typesetting, codecs, resolution etc.) So I tend to favor groups who drop projects as little as possible. Frostii still belongs in this category of groups, but there are others who haven’t dropped anything.
Thus, the fact that you’ve dropped projects in the past (especially Ghost Hound, which was a favorite of mine) has sometimes driven me to support other, competing groups, sometimes of inferior quality. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks like this, so please keep that in mind. You’ve got to treasure your good reputation, you’ve set the bar too high yourselves!
PS1. Thanks for reading my huge post (probably the first whining post of mine). A little off-topic, but I really wanted to say (actually, write) all that.

I kinda don’t like how some people feel entitled to things just because they are there. I don’t care about Ghost Hound. I don’t care about your problems. Don’t add to Frostii’s problems with whiny comments. Also, not tactful to bring up shortcomings of the people responsible for the anime you are watching. Just a general rule of thumb. Thanks for keeping me entertained guys. I hope you enjoy doing this as much as I enjoy watching it. God, Eden is infinitely better than Lost.

@random-ureshii-and-frostii-fan Dude, it isn’t just Ureshii now, it’s Froth-Bite too. And as long as both of the groups have been around I think they’ve been quite reliable. Given the hundreds of episodes pumped out one series is kind of small.
IMO I think we should all take this chance with less anime to watch to like, learn to play Mahjong (so u 2 can be liek Akagi) or enjoy the budding spring weather.
EITHER WAY, Frostii is still my candidate for Fansubbing Group of 2009.

You don’t have to maintain a full detail status page, just showing a show’s status is enough. You’d only have to update it when dropping or starting projects.

Yo random-ureshii-and-frostii-fan, long time ureshii subber here. As far as I can remember, Ghost Hound was actually dropped when we closed ureshii. It wasn’t our intention to drop it but unfortunately the translator pretty much disappeared under the context of having exams and then never came back. I think the group leader at the time didn’t drop the project initially because she hoped we’d get back to it at some point, but after so long without a release, a group decision was finally taken to drop the title.
Frostii is an altogether different beast though. We have far more staff than ureshii ever did, so hopefully similar problems won’t arise in future.
And I wouldn’t even mind if people started asking about project status after three-four weeks of inactivity – it’s more the fact that people start moaning if it’s anything over a week after the episode’s aired. I mean, look at Eden: episode 5 only just aired and everyone’s moaning that we dropped the series because we hadn’t released episode 4!
I don’t mind if you’re impatient – I’d just rather you all kept your impatience to yourselves. Pestering us about project status isn’t the best way to go about getting us to release quicker. Just a tip for you
