Putting focus on the wrong spot – that’s the topic of discussion in this episode.  I am a master of that.

As my life in junior high approached its end, I was supposed to start preparing for high school entrance exams.  That means retiring from the club I was in (wind orchestra), and spend all of my after-school hours on studying.  It turns out that I couldn’t detach myself from the club.  I remained in the organization, and coached my underclassmen on their music.  It was fun.  But it sure made my exam score suffer when the critical time came.  Luckily, I was accepted to the high school I wanted to go, but just barely.  Which put me in the class that gathered all the flunkies together.  Which leads to the story I will share in the release note for the next episode…

Oh Sadaharu is one of the true legendary figures in Japan.  His career home run record of 868 is greater than that of Babe Ruth (714) or Hank Aaron (755).  The record wouldn’t have been the same if he played in the Major Leagues.  But it still is a staggering record.  He gave Japanese baseball fans something to go nuts about.  So, it’s only natural for a great athletic star like Takamura to compare himself to such legend.  Living up to be such a legend himself isn’t an easy task.

Here’s another personal story to bore you with.

I don’t play guitar.  I don’t own a guitar.  I do own several instruments.  Here’s my story of me buying first keiongaku instrument.

Summer of 1992, in Saitama prefecture…  I was determined that I wanted a bass guitar.  I really don’t remember what triggered me into that mind set.  It was not the same as Mio’s reason (see the episode for the details).  I think I was always fascinated with the low-down bottom sound.  The buying experience itself was pretty similar to Yui’s.  I had a set budget, I really had no clue on selection criteria, I was overwhelmed with selection…  But I did go home with an ax in my hand.  Ibanez SR900LE.  It was a scratch and dent item, so the price was marked down, but we did bargain a bit more.  17 years later, I still have it, and I still play it.

I do hope that Yui will love her new ax, and keep playing it for years to come.
